"New parents need as much care as new babies!"
Unfortunately in America, the postpartum period is very much baby-centered. While the new baby does need lots of love and care, so does the person who gave birth to them!
The highly-transitory postpartum period can come with vaginal soreness, fatigue, mood swings (hello baby blues), sore nipples, etc. But don't worry, this won't last forever! Here is my list of postpartum essentials to curb some of these symptoms and ensure a smooth and comfortable transition after giving birth:
For comfort:
Acetaminophen (or pain reliever of your choice)
Stool softeners (goal: avoid straining)
Comfy sweats/pants
For vaginal recovery: If you experienced tearing, or not, you will likely have some vaginal soreness.
Maxi pads
Ice packs
Heading pad
Padsicles (maxi pads, aloe, witch hazel, lavender)
Cooling spray/dermoplast
For breast/chestfeeding:
Breast pump
Miscellaneous:
Nutritious snacks/pre-made meals
Flushable wipes
Prenatal vitamins
Remember to drink lots of water and get adequate rest whenever you can! Do not hesitate to reach out to close family, friends, and your doula to help with your transition.
